Sri lankan Army

When the army founded in 1949, the need arose to recruit and train office ad soldier of the newly formed army. the army Recruit Training Depot (ARTD) was therefore formed in Diyatalawa  on February 6,1950 for the purpose of training recruits. The first batch of 114 recruits passed out form the ADTR June 2, 1950.the ADTR was later named as the Army Training Centre (ATC).But facilities did not exist to train offices, and therefore Office Cadet were sent to the Roil Military academy (RMA) ,Sandburs in the United Kingdom. The fist batch of office Cadets were enlisted to army and the on October10,1949 and were dispatched to RMA sandburs.

          Subsequently Office Cadets were training at the Indian military Academy and the Pakistan Military Academy .Oversea training was not sufficient to meet the growing demand .  therefore ,arrangements were then adeto train office Cadent locally. The Fist intake of Office Cadets who were earmarked to de trained at the Army Training Center Diyatalawa, were enlisted on Apriol16, 1968.

Since then Office Cadets were locally trained and commissioned. With the expansion and the growing need to tannin a large number of recruits, recruit training was assigned to the respective regiments. With thesauri Training Center was renamed as the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA), and since then it has been totally utilized for training of Office Center
